Chock full o’Nuts

This city is amazing. The true heart and soul of NY can be hidden amongst all of the filler these days. I happened to find a long lost gem of NYC today and figured I would share about it with you here.

This place was EVERYWHERE when I was growing up. The jingle has to be one of the top jingles of all time Side note-Original jingles, now THAT needs to come back on a larger scale too. I recall a period where it seemed as if the true native NY chains were dying off like roaches when Ali was pitching D-Con!

For those that don’t know, started by Columbia Alum and the original “Willie B” William Black in 1926 with a chain of nut stands, by 1970 there were over 100 locations around the metropolitan NYC area. Jackie Robinson was even brought on as VP of personnel in 1957.  Yes, I had mine black with no sugar or cream to pay tribute today. Big ups Heavy D!

So I’ve been living under a rock for the last two years, but that’s a story for another blog, nay, a three part movie. But on W23rd bet 5th/6th Ave, a real dine in Chock full o’Nuts store is alive and thriving. Complete with good oldies music and dudes in throwback uniforms in an awesome space. The only thing missing is wi-fi.  Starbucks would have serious problems here in NYC then. I guess then it wouldn’t be a “real” Chock full o’Nuts, but you have to cater to the times!

There’s plenty of tables on two levels, an old fashioned counter to eat at, pictures of yesteryear are everywhere. The menu is complete with all the staples and the service is solid from the staff. NY Deli style sandwiches loaded with meats and cheeses, green plate specials, steak & ribs, the chock burger and yes even the original nutted cheese sandwich are all here.

You should be too!
Only in NYC baby!

Where we don’t die, we multiply! RIP Robin Harris

Ronnie, I hear you loud and clear, buddy! 🙂 Nostalgia is THE most under-rated business tool in the world these days. When we were growing up as kids, there were so many things that we never even paid attention to, but if we see anything approaching it today, it stands out like a sore thumb! In a grand way, of course! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Thanks for the feedback Bruce. It is great to see the REAL NYC resurface.
